Winning a cocktail competition is one of the best ways to showcase your mixing skills and become a recognized bartender. On Monday, October 29, an incredible final took place at W, South Beach, Miami during which new ideas and ingredients were blended together creating cocktails that made everyone in attendance sigh with delight.
The competitors, selected at regional competitions earlier this year in New York, San Francisco, and Miami, proved their dedication to cocktail artistry and what it takes to be a top bartender.
The panel of judges—Tara Fougner (Co-Founder of Thirsty), Bryan Canales (Bar Lab consulting), Will Stribling (Dictador Rum Brand Ambassador), and Juan Camilo Barrera (Executive Director ProColombia USA)—evaluated the competitors’ technique, imagination, creativity, the story behind the cocktail, and the entry’s correlation with the Dictador brand.
Aldo Andres from Faena in Miami was named the grand prize winner with a cocktail that used Dictador 12 Years Old Aged Rum, fresh pineapple, fresh ginger syrup, fresh lime and a Champagne rosemary air foam. The special ProColombia prize went to Kabir Akbani of Zuma in Miami.
